Birds are warm-blooded vertebrates (vertebrates have backbones) and are the only animals with feathers. Some people that make their own suet will mix the egg shells right into the suet mix as well. Although all birds have wings, a few species cant fly. Most birds will also want to vocalize their presence so be prepared for chirping, squawking, and in some cases talking. Lovebird will eat periodically throughout the day and will create a mess around their eating areas. Native plants in natural settings, wild areas of parks, and non-landscaped areas provide the food and shelter that birds. Resident birds in very rainy climates seem to get used to the conditions and may go. Birds eat a variety of foods including seeds, pellets, grains, beans, fruits, and vegetables. Birds around towns and farms may take shelter in porches or sheds. Hawks and other large birds will stay put when it rains. You can also mix the shells with your regular seed mix and fill your everyday feeder. Small songbirds living in trees and shrubs may seek sheltered spots under overhanging branches or leaning trunks. The mesh bottom keeps everything drained and fresh. If birds find shelter in your home, blocking off potential nesting sites can help prevent future problems. Although birds may take shelter under shrubs and bushes when it starts to rain, that is only a short-term solution to keeping dry. Nesting females will get added calcium and the grit helps the food-digesting process in the gizzards of seed and insect eating birds like Chickadees, Nuthatches and others. Many different species of birds will eat crushed eggshells for calcium and for grit. This spring don’t throw away your egg shells. I suggest having plenty of bird houses available as well as food, water and nesting materials to help any birds that have decided to nest in your yard.
